Research & Public Engagement in Lebanon:
A Panel Discussion
1:30pm, 23 June 2016
CASAR Seminar Room, Bldg. 37
American University of Beirut
Join us in Beirut for a panel of presentations dealing with the intersection of research and public engagement. What should the relationship between research and public engagement be? Are there particular challenges to conducting in-depth research in Lebanon? How can researchers translate their findings into publically accessible mediums? We will discuss these and many other questions through an introduction and exploration of some of Lebanon’s many research-based advocacy projects.
This event is the public component of a workshop for PhD students researching Lebanon, in which academic researchers engage with and learn from a host of academic and non-academic researchers in the country. Co-conveneed by Ziad Abu-Rish and Nadya Sbaiti, the workshop brings together ten rising scholars of diverse disciplinary training and topical foci whose research directly addresses the political, economy, social, cultural, and historical dynamics in modern Lebanon.
The organizers are pleased to present a public panel featuring some of the most active and critical individuals who have worked to bridge the realms of research and public engagement in Lebanon:
Maria Bashshur Abunnasr
Ras Beirut Oral History Project, Neighborhood Initiative
Sami Atallah
